This Privacy Policy explains how CurrencyWiki Technologies LLC ("we", "us", or "Currency.Wiki") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Currency Converter app for Shopify. By installing our app, you agree to this policy.
1. Data Collection from Merchants
When you install our app, we collect the following information from your Shopify store:
| Data Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Store Domain (mystore.myshopify.com) | Identify your store and provide service |
| Shopify Access Token | Communicate with Shopify API |
| Widget Configuration | Save your customization preferences |
| Enabled Currencies | Display correct currency options |
2. Data Collection from Store Visitors
Our widget collects minimal data from your store visitors:
IP Address
Used only for geo-location to auto-detect visitor's currency. We do not store full IP addresses - only the country/region result.
Currency Preference
Stored in browser localStorage (not on our servers) so visitors see their preferred currency on return visits.
Usage Events (Optional)
When analytics is enabled by the merchant, we store privacy-first, pseudonymous usage events on Currency.Wiki servers (such as currency selections and widget interactions), including a random visitor ID, country/region, and page URL. We use this data to generate aggregated reports in your analytics dashboard. We do not collect visitor names, emails, addresses, or payment information.
Analytics Opt-In
Analytics tracking is disabled by default. Merchants must explicitly enable it in the app settings. When disabled, no analytics events are recorded or stored on Currency.Wiki servers.
Anonymous Visitor ID
A randomly generated identifier (UUID) stored in localStorage to help count unique visitors for analytics. This ID is not linked to names, emails, addresses, or payment information. When analytics is enabled, it may be transmitted to Currency.Wiki servers with usage events.
Important: We never collect visitor names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information (PII) from your customers.
3. Third-Party Services
We integrate with the following third-party services to provide our app:
| Provider | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | OAuth, Billing, App Installation | Store domain, access token |
| api.currency.wiki | Exchange Rates | None - rates are fetched anonymously |
| IP Geolocation Service | Currency Auto-Detection | Visitor IP (not stored) |
4. Data Retention
We retain your data according to the following policies:
- Active subscription: Data retained while your subscription is active
- After uninstall: Store settings deleted within 30 days
- Analytics data: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
Analytics data is stored on Currency.Wiki servers in pseudonymous and aggregated form. You can disable analytics at any time in the app settings, or delete all analytics data from the Analytics page.
5. Data Storage
Currency.Wiki stores data on secure servers to provide our service:
Your Data, Your Control
- Analytics data is privacy-first - we do not store visitor names, emails, addresses, or payment information
- You have complete control over enabling or disabling analytics
- You can request deletion of your analytics data at any time
- Only pseudonymous usage events (e.g., currency selections and widget interactions) are tracked (no personal data)
What We Store on Our Servers
- Your store domain and Shopify access token (required for the app to function)
- Your widget configuration settings (colors, position, enabled currencies)
- Subscription and billing status
- Pseudonymous analytics data (when enabled): currency selections, widget interactions, page URL/path analytics, and regional breakdowns
What Stays in Visitor's Browser
- Currency preference (localStorage)
- Anonymous visitor ID for session counting (localStorage)
- Widget open/closed state (localStorage)
Browser Storage (localStorage)
Our widget uses browser localStorage to enhance the user experience. Some data stays local (such as currency preference). If analytics is enabled, the visitor ID and usage events may be transmitted to Currency.Wiki servers to provide the analytics dashboard.
Data Stored in Visitor's Browser
- Currency preference: Remembers which currency the visitor selected so it persists across page views and return visits
- Anonymous visitor ID: A randomly generated identifier (UUID) used only for counting unique visitors in your analytics. This is not a tracking cookie and cannot identify individuals.
- Widget state: Whether the widget dropdown is open/closed
Visitor Control
- Visitors can clear this data at any time by clearing their browser's localStorage
- No analytics events are transmitted or stored if analytics is disabled by the merchant
- The visitor ID is random and pseudonymous and is not linked to names, emails, or addresses
Note: We do not use traditional HTTP cookies. All client-side data is stored using localStorage, which is scoped to your store's domain only and cannot be accessed by any other website.
